Driftwood is great, when I moved in I only intended on staying for a little
while before I moved on but ended up staying all summer. Kirsteen
and Matt are both so helpful and friendly, Kirsteen helped me get a winter season job, as were all the
other guests who I made good friends with.
We would regularly have BBQ's and go for night outs as a large group, the lodge
is very inclusive and there's always someone about.
This was my best summer so far, living and working in Newquay
and Driftwood and the people in it were a big part of that.

Message : Honestly... I absolutely love this place!
I moved away from my home in Kent for
the first time, and arrived at a warm and homely environment that is Driftwood
Lodge. It felt more like a home than a hostel, and for that reason the people
who lived there became my 2nd family - we would eat together, hang out in the
living area together... I think the highlight of my stay was when we all
chipped in to have a BBQ to celebrate a birthday - such a great atmosphere,
with people you'd only just met.
Mat and Kirsteen were so welcolming,
and they go out of their way to help you. I felt completely safe there, and I
wish I could've stayed longer.
If ever I need to come back to Newquay,
I would literally not consider living anywhere else other than Driftwood -
there's a good reason why people keep coming back (I lived with people who had stayed
there every summer for a number of years).

Message :Driftwood is an amazing place to stay! I
stayed here for about 2months at the start of Summer
and have booked again for another few weeks at the end of Summer.
Kirsteen and Mat are so friendly and willing to help
you out with pretty much anything, not to mention they keep the place clean and
tidy and running smoothly.
The surf shack was great to store my board, and if you need to hire can do so
from Mat at a very reasonable price. The washing service is fantastic and the
kitchen has everything you need in it and fridge/freezer space available to
store your food.
I have met a heap of wonderful people from my stay here, and whether you're
after a party, a BBQ or just wanting to chill out, there is always someone
willing to keep you company.
I would recommend staying here to anyone thinking of short or long term
accommodation in Newquay, as it is friendly, fun and
right in the centre of town!!!

Message :I stayed at Driftwood Lodge for almost three months in early 2010, and
had a great variety of experiences at the hostel--all of them good. The hostel
has the ability to accommodate the quiet reclusive as well as the party
animals, and everything in between, all the while doing it with a great deal of
respect and hospitality. The location is in the absolute center of town,
providing easy access to all of the great beaches and surf sites as well as the
parties. Mat and Kirsteen are super friendly and
eager to help out in any way they can and the facilities are well-cared for and
in excellent condition.
These are the experiences I had at Driftwood during my three months. If I
hadn't have liked it I wouldn't have stayed so long. Thanks so much Mat and Kirsteen for a great stay in Newquay
and Cornwall!

Message :Where to start really. Well you couldn't for a nicer group of people
staying in the lodge. Not to mention Mat and Kirsteen
who are great. Ive never walked into a place before
where I have felt so welcome and they keep the place clean and tidy with a
homely feel for those nights where you would rather chill with a film from
their large choice with the other lodgers then go out.
As soon as I walked in there I shown around the house and Mat explained the
great prices of his surf lessons. Which are fun and Mat is a great teacher.

highly recommend staying if your thinking of heading
down to newquay. Mat and Kirsteen
are really friendly and laid back and keep the place clean and running

in a great location being right in the centre of town so easy to get to
shops, bars and the beachs!
The atmosphere is possibly the best thing about the place as it has quite a homely and relaxed feel and you meet some really cool
people who are all friendly and up for having a laugh! There are surfboards and
wetsuits to hire out for a really good price too, as well as a lockup for your
board! Ive been to a
few surf lodges in newquay and driftwood is by far
the best not to mention good value for money. So if your
heading to newquay make sure
you book your stay at driftwood!!!

Message :What a top place to stay! Matt, the owner, is a real nice guy with
expert local knowledge, and rumor has it he's a great surf instructor. It has
great bedrooms, a really good room to chill in with big tv and loads of videos/dvds,
and a well equipped kitchen with recycling system. Doesn't really matter what
you are heading to Newquay for, Driftwood caters for
all. I personally went down to surf. There's superb
facilities if you have your own wetsuit/surf gear. To sum Driftwood up I
would say it's warm, comfortable, friendly and in a
perfect location close to superb beaches and amenities. Have fun!

Message :I stayed at the Lodge for over a week and had an awesome time!! Great
facilities and so close to the town centre, pubs, and most importantly the
great beaches!!! Everyone was friendly and always keen to have fun. The Lodge
itself was always clean and inviting. The use of the kitchen was an advantage
as well as the space in the dining room.
Matt, Kirsteen and little Jimmy were such great
hosts!! Matts surf lessons were so much fun and I will definitely be paying
them a visit soon.

about driftwood lodge and its amazingly fantastic owners, mat, kirsteen and jimmy boy! after 3
years of hardcore work at uni i
decided to take myself to newquay for a little summer
season of surf drink sun fun and parties, and what better place to stay, filled
with the best people i ever could have wished to have
lived with... than that of driftwood lodge! mainly for the long term stayers,
driftwood lodge has one of the most relaxed atmospheres i
could ever have imagined, with the people staying there quickly becoming a
tight knit away from home family. mat and kirsteen were fantastic landlords, especially with their
kind patience with a bunch of lunatics like us. they
made the summer such an enjoyable experience, being constantly welcoming and
helpful, they really were truly amazing. and if they themselves couldnt get any better, mat being a qualified lifeguard and
surf coach is just the icing on the cake! taking me
for my first lesson (and 2nd and 3rd...) he was kind and patient, and made me
and the rest feel fully capable and confident whilst undertaking such a new and
unknown sport for us! he made the experience seem
fully personal... teaching us with such warmth and friendliness, and making the
whole experience the most comfortable it could have been. leaving
the lodge after 3 months of living there was one of the hardest things i have done, and before i even
left i was plannin my next
visit back to see these wonderful people and feel the warmth of driftwood lodge
all over again. i would
recommend driftwood lodge to any fun loving young individual who is wishing for
the most enjoyable stay in newquay, because instead
of getting bits and drabs, driftwood lodge is the full package, and really is a
merit to mat and kirsteen! guys
you should be so proud of what you have created and keep yourselves and
driftwood as amazing as it and yourselves are right now! you
definitely have a returning customer and friend right here, and i am definately not the only one!

Message :All of our group had a brilliant time and definitely all want to surf
again!! After our safety brief and clear demonstrations on the beach we were
into the water and straight to surfing. Matt was very knowledgeable and was
able to give us the confidence to try whilst letting us know why things had
gone wrong and how we could improve. All in all the
lesson was relaxed and enjoyable and I would definitely recommend Matt to
anyone wanting to learn to surf.

The lodge is only 5 mins from the sea and close to
all the pubs and clubs. It was quite full when I was there and a really
friendly crowd. Free use of the kitchen and TV in the dining

welcome and was fortunate enough to have a surf lesson with Matt. Not liking
the water at all Matt soon made me feel extremely safe and comfortable having
explained everything to me really clearly and that he would be there at all
times. Relaxed after the safety brief I was then able to go into the sea for
the first time and after having achieved the lying down quickly I was then
ready to progress. Another lesson on the beach it was time to go back out and
to try and stand which I achieved in no time at all from there on in a big grin
was there for all to see. With out doubt a superb time was had and it goes
without saying the instruction from Matt was excellent and I would recommend

for my second season at the best surf lodge in Newquay!
After finishing Uni I couldn’t resist repeating
another fantastic summer in the lodge and am happy to see another fantastic
bunch of people who are here for a long term summer. Mat and Kirsteen are ace landlords and are
patient with us crazy bunch! The house is always warm and clean with beds
changed regularly and fun time shared rooms. One of the handiest features apart
from the free Wi-Fi is the secure surf shack attached onto the house where we
can grab our boards and surf whenever we want. Always
excellent hygiene in bathrooms and kitchens. I would rate this place five stars as it is fun, friendly and welcoming
and also situated in a fantastic location in Newquay.
Mat is also a qualified surf instructor and took me and my friend on our first
surf lesson and we have been bitten by the bug ever since!! Overall a wonderful
place, definitely come and stay.

Comments : I went to Newquay for my birthday and to ensure I had tried surfing
before I was 30, we stayed at Driftwood Lodge which is always a fantastic place
to stay, it's so convenient and friendly. We had arranged to have a surf lesson
with Mat and although it was blowing a hoolie we
plucked up the courage, donned an ever flattering wetsuit and set off for the
bay. Mat was amazing, we had so much fun and his patience and teaching style
was brilliant, we spent nearly three hours in and out of the water, learning
various techniques and general knowledge about surfing. In the water Mat looked
after us and was constantly able to give us little improvements to ensure that
we got the most out of our lesson, we managed to stand for about a second but
it made it all worth it. Mat is an excellent teacher and provided us with all
the kit we needed. He was willing to put in the extra time to ensure we
succeeded and we cannot wait to go back and have a few more lessons because for
some surfing may just be a sport but for others its a
way of life!
